Yin-Yang-Jung (1977)

Sometimes truth can be found in the gray area. Painted with acrylic in 1977 in conjunction with my PhD. thesis in biochemistry at UCLA: A stylized pictorial-depiction of my novel scientific proposal at the time for the functioning of ATP Synthase, as an alternating/rotating 3-catalytic site enzyme.
Since then, my proposed model for ATP Synthase has been proven to be correct, earning my PhD.supervisor and mentor Prof. Paul Boyer the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1997. I consider the invitation I received from Prof. Lars Ernster on behalf of the Nobel Committee to participate in the Nobel Ceremonies in Stockholm the highlight of my scientific career.

LIFE of a CELL ( max pixels) — Drawn as a gift for a close friend, FLORA KATZ, for her PhD. thesis in Cell-Biology at MIT, during Celik’s tenure as a Research Associate in Prof.Salvador Luria’s laboratory, also at MIT (1977 – 81) Flora’s PhD. supervisor was the distinguished scientist Harvey Lodish, PhD. Salvador Luria, MD. was a Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine (1969). Flora is currently the director of Fogarty’s Division of International Training and Research at NIH. Previously, she was a faculty at the University of Texas and Texas A&M University.
