From the BIBLE, 1 Corinthians 13:11
“When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things”.
Very wise words, indeed. All Religions should start practicing them, including the Christianity itself.
Doing so is more urgent now than any other time in history.
It’s high time that we all embrace “SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE” and abandon “REVEALED KNOWLEDGE”. The latter is an illusion, better yet: a delusion.
Some positive functions of Religion, such as giving comfort and reducing stress & anxiety should stay. If Religion is the only source of strength- and meaning-provider in one’s life (shouldn’t be), then fine, we wouldn’t want take it away from anyone, by any means.
However, Religion’s claims to how the Universe works should go. They are simply false. They should be replaced by science-based knowledge.
Science is universal: It’s the same, for example, in the USA, South America, Europe, Africa or Asia. There’s no difference between the Chinese, British, American, Indian, German or Turkish science, as generated in each of these countries by their own scientists.
There’s great hope for Humanity in this unifying fact
Conversely, Religion has mostly been local, although it’s geographical boundaries change over time: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism… often contradict each other in their teachings and practice (mercifully, not always). They create endless conflicts, sometimes armed and violent, all around the globe. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any relief from this sad predicament for their faithful-followers.
I have great sympathy and compassion for them.
Dogma underlies Religion, in general.
Evidence, verification, self-correction, advancement and progress underlie Sciences.
Therefore, any belief that is not science-based could be harmful, even detrimental for Humanity, whether it is in politics, culture, law or social rules and norms.
They are “childish” at best, and catastrophic at worst, at this time in history. It’s time that we leave them behind, once and for all.
Moving forward, as a practical matter SECULARISM could be the way to organize a healthy society: Separation of Church and State, so to speak, with utmost respect to all peoples’ religious beliefs and practices, but minimal tolerance for their interference and meddling in the worldly affairs. Secularism works.
So does SPIRITUALITY, to be cherished and practiced without the dogmatic nonsense of Organized Religions.
Continued acceptance of Religious NONSENSE has another detrimental consequence:
It prepares the groundwork for all sorts of other nonsense, wishful thinking and even beliefs in paranoid conspiracy-theories. Some examples are:
Global warming is a hoax; corona vaccines are harmful; systemic racism does not exist; White cops are racist and brutal towards Black civilians; we need to defund the police; we should recall Governor Newsom; Donald Trump won the 2020 Presidential Election,… and, on and on. What a bunch of nonsense!
Children have an appetite for bedtime fairytales and candy. Grownups need to curb their appetite for childish things.
In 2022, lets start putting them away, shall we?
Thank you for your time and attention
